Grisele Avila, Â鶹¹ú²ú Imperial Valley alumna from 2021, teaches sixth graders at Raymond Cree Middle School as a dual immersion teacher.

The agreement, signed between the city of Imperial and Â鶹¹ú²ú Imperial Valley, will allow both parties to collaborate in providing admission support and guidance to prospective students.

The donation comes from Michael Kelley, who served for more than 16 years for the Imperial County Board of Supervisors.

Clarissa Miranda, who teaches ninth graders in Brawley, is a double alumna and is part of the Division of Education’s second largest graduating cohort.

Shiloh Williams, assistant professor in nursing, joins leaders from across the country to find solutions around health in rural communities.

With the new center, Â鶹¹ú²ú Imperial Valley faculty are partnering with area organizations to create evidence-based research to support local issues.

The collaboration by faculty and students at Â鶹¹ú²ú Imperial Valley and UABC in Mexicali includes projects targeting cross-border environmental issues.

The three new projects focus on diabetes related research, adverse pregnancy outcomes and social screenings as part of their work with the Imperial County Clinical Research Network.

On Oct. 11, attendees celebrated the opening of the new public health research laboratories and welcomed incoming students.

The recently confirmed enrollment numbers come as the university continues to grow its degree offerings, research and student support services.
